A confrontation over a public sex act on a bus in Genoa, Italy, escalated into violence, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old man and sparking a debate about public safety.

The incident occurred last Sunday at the final stop of the line 20 bus in the Foce district of Genoa. According to police reports, the bus driver noticed two men engaged in oral sex in the back row of the vehicle after it had reached its destination.

The driver, a woman, approached the men and asked the 25-year-old to get dressed. The request was met with hostility. The man reportedly became verbally abusive and threatening, refusing to comply. The situation quickly deteriorated as a colleague of the driver and another passenger attempted to intervene.

The 25-year-old man then physically assaulted the bus driver, striking her in the face. The passenger who tried to help was also reportedly injured in the altercation. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the driver was transported to San Martino hospital for her injuries.

Charges and Union Response

Police apprehended the 25-year-old Italian national at the scene. He now faces several charges, including assault, resisting an officer, and disruption of a public service.

The event has drawn a sharp response from the local public transport union, which described the safety situation for its employees as "untenable." In a statement, the union reiterated its long-standing concerns about the increasing risks faced by staff and renewed its call for a greater security presence, such as more inspectors and transit officers, to protect both employees and passengers.
