DEVENTER – The schedule for Pride Deventer 2026 has been announced, outlining a comprehensive nine-day programme running from June 20 to June 28. The event aims to offer a broad range of activities that extend beyond a single parade, focusing on cultural expression, community building, and education for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
Art, Culture, and Performance
A significant portion of the programme is dedicated to arts and culture. Several exhibitions are planned, including "Welcome Home," featuring paintings by queer artist Alejandro John Tuan Rodriguez, and "Family," an exhibition that explores the concepts of queer families and chosen family within Deventer. Another exhibition, "LOVE = LOVE," will present quiet testimonies from a time when queer lives were seldom recorded in history.
The schedule also includes literary events, with author talks and signing sessions featuring Haroon Ali, author of 'Spectrum', and young adult authors Nadine Swagerman and Bo Talisa. For theatre and music enthusiasts, the programme offers "GAY&A," a personal theatre performance about family and coming out, and an open-air garden concert by Dutch pop artist MEROL.
Visibility and Activism
The cornerstone of the week's public events will be the Pride Walk on Saturday, June 20. Described as a festive walk for all supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community, it serves as the main visibility event. In preparation, a "Pre-Pride Walk: Sign Making" workshop will be held on June 13, providing a creative and social opportunity for participants to prepare for the walk.
Community and Connection
Building connections is a central theme, with numerous events designed for social interaction. These include a "Safe Space Clothing Swap," a "Meet & Swap" event at DAVO, and a large "Pride Picnic" to close out the week on June 28. The programme also provides dedicated spaces for specific groups within the community. "Jong&Out Pride Edition" offers a community event for LGBTQ+ youth up to 18 years old, while a separate "Picnic Meetup" is organized for queer parents and their children.
Entertainment and Nightlife
The schedule features a variety of entertainment. The "Dragpalace Sing-along Game Show" will be hosted by drag performer Rose Murphy, offering an evening of music bingo. For those looking for a party, the "Big Pride Party" is billed as the official club night of Pride Deventer. Additionally, an event called "BREEK DE KAST!" (Break the Closet!) promises an evening of feminist punk and drag performances.
Education and Reflection
Pride Deventer also incorporates educational and reflective events. A "Pride Basics" session is scheduled to provide an accessible introduction to LGBTQIA+ topics for family, friends, and allies. For those interested in the intersection of faith and identity, there will be a lecture on "Queer Bible Reading" by Professor Mariecke van den Berg, as well as a "Roze Viering" (Pink Service), a church service centered on themes of love, diversity, and inclusion.
