DOETINCHEM – The month-long Achterhoek Pride has commenced, with the first week of June featuring a series of events aimed at fostering connection and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community in the region. The program highlights the diverse interests within the community, offering activities in various towns including Varsseveld, Doetinchem, Aalten, Lichtenvoorde, and Ruurlo.

Unlike the large-scale parades seen in major cities, Achterhoek Pride emphasizes local, grassroots engagement. The schedule for the opening week reflects this focus on community building through shared activities.

Opening Week Schedule: June 3 - June 7

The initial lineup of events includes cultural, social, and reflective gatherings:

  • Monday, June 3: A rehearsal for the 'Shansons' choir in Varsseveld.
  • Monday, June 3: A Pink Film Night will be held in Doetinchem.
  • Tuesday, June 4: A coffee morning for individuals aged 50 and over in Doetinchem.
  • Friday, June 7: A Pride church service is scheduled in Aalten.
  • Friday, June 7: The 'Just Be You' event takes place in Lichtenvoorde.
  • Friday, June 7: A High Tea followed by a walk along the 'Liefdespad' (Love Path) in Ruurlo.

The variety of events, from a choir rehearsal to a scenic walk, aims to provide multiple entry points for community members to participate. The full program for the rest of the month can be found on the official Achterhoek Pride website.
