A photo exhibition celebrating queer love, family, and connection is now open to the public in the central passage of De Hallen Amsterdam. Titled Love Lives Here, the series by Amsterdam-based photographer Laurien Riha features portraits of seven queer couples, accompanied by their personal stories.
Presented by Pride Photo, the exhibition coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Netherlands becoming the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage in 2001. The series bridges generations, featuring couples who married in the early years of marriage equality alongside more recently married pairs and other contemporary couples.
The portraits aim for an intimate and authentic feel, with each couple photographed in a location of their own choosing—places that hold personal significance within their relationship. The result is a quiet exploration of partnership and the freedom for queer people to define family on their own terms.
The exhibition is organised by Pride Photo, a Dutch non-profit that has worked to increase the visibility of LGBTQIA+ stories through visual media since 2010. The organisation is also known for its annual open-air photography exhibition during Pride Amsterdam.
