Prik, a fixture in Amsterdam's LGBTQ+ nightlife scene on the Spuistraat, is preparing to celebrate two decades of operation. The bar will host a week-long series of events from Monday, 13 July, to Sunday, 19 July, with each day offering a different theme for the community.
The celebration is designed to reflect the bar's diverse programming over the years, culminating in an ambitious 20-hour party on Saturday.
A Week of Festivities
The schedule for the anniversary week covers a wide range of activities:
- Monday, 13 July: The week starts with a Gaymesnight XXL from 19:00, organised with Board Gayming. Attendees can purchase tickets to play games and collect tokens for a midnight lottery. All profits from ticket and token sales will be donated to support the Board Gayming initiative.
- Tuesday, 14 July: On its official 20th birthday, Prik will host a 'big birthday borrel' starting at 20:00. The dress code for the evening is cocktail attire with a touch of pink.
- Wednesday, 15 July: A daytime BBQ & Poolparty is planned, featuring a pink pool. From 18:00, every drink order will come with a complimentary hamburger.
- Thursday, 16 July: The evening takes a turn for the kitsch with 'The Trashiest Thursday' from 20:00. The event promises a curated selection of campy and 'trashy' music and films.
- Friday, 17 July: DJ Shady Lady will be in charge of a nostalgic disco night starting at 23:00, with a focus on 80s hits.
- Saturday, 18 July: The week's main event is a 20-hour party, running from 12:00 on Saturday until 08:00 on Sunday. DJs VRNDJSNVRNDNNTJS will manage the music, starting with relaxed afternoon beats before increasing the tempo as the night progresses.
- Sunday, 19 July: The celebration concludes with a karaoke extravaganza hosted by Jezebel, inviting attendees to take the stage for a theatrical finale.
Following the seven-day event, the bar has stated it will be closed on Monday, 20 July, for a day of rest.
