According to law enforcement, the charges stem from an incident alleged to have occurred two years ago. Tyler Boebert is accused of filming an explicit video with a 17-year-old girl, which was later discovered on Instagram by the victim. Following the discovery, she and her mother alerted the authorities, leading to his recent arrest.
In a public statement, Congresswoman Boebert addressed the situation, stating, “We take allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.” She affirmed her support for her son.
A History of Anti-LGBTQ+ Accusations
The charges against Tyler Boebert have highlighted what many see as a profound hypocrisy in his mother's political messaging. Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, has been a vocal opponent of LGBTQ+ rights and has repeatedly used the dangerous and unfounded trope of “grooming” to attack queer and transgender individuals.
In 2022, she targeted the then-assistant secretary for health, Dr. Rachel Levine, who is a transgender woman.
