Fabio Tomei, a 29-year-old from Pietrasanta, has been named Most Handsome Gay Man in Italy 2026. The final of the national competition took place on the stage of Baddy, a well-known LGBTQ+ venue in the seaside town of Torre del Lago, a historic hub for Italy's queer community.

While fourteen contestants from across the country competed for the title, Tomei's victory is being noted for more than just the pageant's aesthetic criteria. Throughout the event, he centered his identity as a deaf, gay man, using the platform to speak about the importance of accessibility and dismantling barriers to communication.

The annual contest is promoted by the Mamamia organization, a long-standing reference point for the Italian LGBTQ+ community. According to organizers, Tomei's focus on his personal journey resonated strongly with both the judges and the audience, shifting the focus of the evening towards a broader conversation about representation.

A Platform for Visibility

Tomei's participation reframes the conventional beauty pageant as a space for more than just physical appreciation. By bringing his full identity to the stage, he underscored the diverse experiences that exist within the queer community. His message was not about overcoming a disability, but about claiming the right to be represented in his entirety, without any part of his identity being seen as a limitation.

Adding to the atmosphere of the final was the presence of Tomei's family, who were in the front row to support him. He has cited their support as a crucial element in his personal journey.

The event in Torre del Lago suggests a continuing evolution for such contests, where personal narrative and advocacy are becoming as valued as the traditional components of a beauty competition. Tomei now carries the responsibility of the title, which he intends to use to further give visibility to a community made up of different experiences, bodies, and identities.
