Plans are underway for a new LGBTQ+ community space in Amsterdam East, set to launch as a pilot project this autumn. Titled 'Queer Hub Oost', the initiative is being developed by Alle Kleuren Oost to provide a dedicated, welcoming environment for queer individuals in the district.
The goal is to establish a versatile location where community members can connect, participate in a range of activities, or host their own events. The project aims to fill a need for more queer-centric spaces outside of Amsterdam's city center.
Help Shape the Hub
To ensure the hub meets the actual needs and desires of its future visitors, the project team has launched a public survey. The feedback gathered will directly influence the development and programming of Queer Hub Oost during its initial phase. The survey is available in English and takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
The organizers are seeking input on several key areas, including:
- Desired Activities: Suggestions range from social meetups, communal dinners, and movie nights to creative workshops (like painting or knitting) and practical sessions (such as self-defense).
- Logistics: The survey asks for preferred evenings for events and how often people might visit.
- Key Priorities: Participants can indicate what matters most to them, whether it's the accessibility of the location, a low-barrier and welcoming atmosphere, free admission, or a strong event calendar.
- Community Involvement: There is also an opportunity for individuals to express interest in organizing events or contributing to the hub themselves.
About the Organizers
Queer Hub Oost is an initiative of Alle Kleuren Oost, a project of Stichting Alle Kleuren. The foundation is active in Amsterdam East, working to build connections between the area's diverse groups, including residents, migrant organizations, religious communities, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Their work focuses on creating a district where everyone feels they can be themselves.
