Gilde Amsterdam has scheduled a workshop series aimed at gay and bisexual men who are recently retired or approaching retirement. The two-day program, titled 'PowerVol Pride,' is designed to help participants navigate the significant life changes that come with leaving the workforce.

Retirement often means the loss of daily structure, social contacts, and a part of one's identity that was tied to a career. This workshop directly addresses the question of how to build a fulfilling new chapter, focusing on themes of connection, identity, and purpose in what is often called the 'third phase of life'.

The program is tailored specifically for gay and bi men, acknowledging the unique historical context of their generation. It provides a space to discuss shared experiences, from witnessing the fight for emancipation and living through the AIDS crisis to adapting to the digital age. The sessions will explore how these life experiences shape their future and what they still wish to achieve for themselves and their community.

What to Expect

The workshop is structured to be both informative and interactive. Over the two days, attendees will:

  • Gain insights into the opportunities and challenges of retirement.
  • Discuss topics specifically relevant to older gay and bi men, such as community visibility and social connection.
  • Engage in conversations with peers who are in a similar life stage.

Feedback from previous participants highlights the value of the shared experience. “I discovered where I actually get energy from at this moment,” one person noted. Another said, “Hearing how others dealt with it helped me enormously.”
