The Prom Night We All Deserved

Remember your high school prom, or the Dutch equivalent, the 'gala'? For many in the LGBTQ+ community, that memory is often a complicated one—a night of pretending, going with a 'friend' to fit in, or simply skipping it altogether. It's a shared experience of a milestone that didn't quite feel like our own. Now, entertainer Frankie Grande is taking back that narrative with his powerful new single, "I Don’t Remember It."

Released via Casablanca Records, the track is a cinematic pop banger that dives deep into the act of reclaiming a past you'd rather forget. It’s less about erasing a memory and more about painting over it with the vibrant colours of queer joy, authenticity, and self-love.

From Dissociation to Celebration

In the stunning music video, Grande swaps the discomfort of his actual prom for the fantasy he always wanted. He’s not just attending; he’s owning the night, fabulously and fearlessly, with the boy he wished he could have taken all those years ago.

"The ‘I Don’t Remember It’ music video is one of the most personal pieces I’ve ever created," Grande explains. "It traces the journey from dissociation to reclamation, a path so many LGBTQ+ people know all too well."

He gets even more specific about the inspiration: "I don’t really remember my prom because I wasn’t living as I am now and went with a girl. So, this song is me rewriting that night in my mind, reclaiming it, and giving myself the prom I always dreamed of... the one where I get to show up fabulously, fearlessly, and slow-dance with the boy I always wished I’d taken."

An Anthem for Chosen Family

While the song is deeply personal for Grande, its message is universal. It’s a tribute to the moment we stop just surviving and finally start living, surrounded by the love and support of our chosen family. In a year that has presented numerous challenges for our community worldwide, this blast of unapologetic joy feels more necessary than ever.

"This song isn’t just about looking back... it’s about showing queer people everywhere that their stories, their healing, and their joy deserve the spotlight," Grande adds.

For fans of drag, it's also worth noting that Grande is currently on tour across the US with the legendary Alyssa Edwards, bringing this message of joy and empowerment to stages nationwide.
