From the diving board to the makeup chair, Tom Daley is exploring a whole new world of performance.
We know Tom Daley as the guy who can execute a flawless dive, knit a cardigan on the Olympic sidelines, and be an all-around adorable husband and dad. But now, we can add 'drag queen' to his long list of talents. The British Olympic champion recently teamed up with RuPaul's Drag Race alum Plastique Tiara for a complete drag transformation, and the result is something you have to see to believe.
In a new video on Plastique's YouTube channel, Tom sat down for the full treatment. And in the most on-brand move ever, he spent the entire time casually knitting while Plastique worked her magic with brushes and contour. It’s the kind of wholesome, multi-tasking energy we’ve come to love from him.
Spilling the Tea While Knitting
Between stitches, Tom opened up about his incredible life and career. He chatted about the whirlwind experience of competing in the Beijing Olympics at just 13 years old, the pressure of growing up in the public eye, and his decision to come out publicly in a YouTube video back in 2013. He also shared sweet details about the beginning of his relationship with his now-husband, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, with whom he has two sons.
Of course, Plastique had to ask the important questions. When quizzed on his old celebrity crushes (besides his husband, obviously), Tom didn't hesitate. "For a very long time, it was Shawn Mendes," he admitted. "But also Miley Cyrus." A man of taste.
The Big Reveal
After the final lash was glued and the wig was secured, Tom got to see his transformation for the first time. His reaction was pure shock and delight. "That is crazy… That looks nothing like me!" he exclaimed, staring at his reflection.
He immediately FaceTimed Dustin Lance Black to get his reaction. A stunned Dustin joked that Tom's new glamorous look might just "make him straight." We love to see the supportive banter.
But a queen is nothing without a name. Tom was prepared, revealing his perfectly punny drag name: Lady Good-Diver. A solid 10/10 from the judges.
