An upcoming conference in Amsterdam West aims to connect residents from diverse backgrounds through guided conversations, performances, and shared experiences. The Empathy Movement will host its second 'Power of Perspective-Shifting' conference on Sunday, 22 November 2026, at Hal West.
The free, day-long event is designed to move beyond superficial small talk, encouraging attendees to exchange stories and see the city from different viewpoints. The program includes music, spoken word, and a shared lunch, all centered around the theme of building a more empathetic and interconnected Amsterdam.
Dialogue on Diverse Identities
A central feature of the conference is the 'Human Talks' segment. These are interactive, moderated table discussions where participants will explore a range of important social themes. Topics slated for discussion include women's emancipation, migration, racism, living with a disability, and LHBTIQ+ identity. This provides a structured opportunity for open dialogue between people who might not otherwise meet.
The afternoon also includes an 'Afrocentric Experience' presented by the Aduna foundation, which combines storytelling, live music, and an interactive workshop to offer a holistic and sensory experience.
