Mesdames et Messieurs, welcome!
Welcome to the sixteen eighties – the pink revolution of the French Baroque. All night long, we dance at the court of none other than Louis XIV.
But let's be honest: the Sun King has written enough history, so for him, only a meager supporting role in this libretto. We present to you Julie d'Aubigny, better known as Madame de Maupin – opera diva, duelist, and rebel. This queen of coloratura fights with her voice and sword against the suffocating social norms and classes of her time, conquering the hearts of many a man and woman.
This queer-icon avant la lettre claims her place in history today. Join us for a ratgirl summer in Versailles. A true story so exciting it will make your ears turn ruby red.
We go way beyond the ball!
"Baroque-pop musical about a genderfluid opera singer shows painful parallels between 1680 and now."

More About the Makers
Collectief Aqueerius, consisting of Charlotte Dommershausen, Seppe Salome, and Jip Warmerdam, creates innovative queer-musicals, balancing on the campy waves between art and kitsch. Inspired by contemporary pop culture, science, and an unexplainable fascination with history, they mix these elements into vibrant, new narrative forms and universes, breaking the (gender) norms of traditional theater.
In this iconic 70-minute femi-queer musical, Collectief Aqueerius transforms the aristocratic, stiff court ball into a new-wave ball full of baroque-realness and self-expression.
