I met you once, I loved you twice
I met you once, I loved you twice starts from Plato's myth about lost other halves. This visual performance shows the desire to love and the mistrust that makes this love impossible.
A long time ago, people had four legs, four arms, two heads, and two sets of genitals. Their shape was round. They resembled their ancestors: the sun, the earth, and the moon. Until they were split in two. Since then, they have spent the rest of their lives searching for their lost other half.
In an age of disinformation where truth seems irrelevant, it becomes increasingly difficult to know what is real and who you can trust. During the residency at de Brakke Grond, Engelen collaborates with creative technologist Daan Gijzen and performer/composer Manuel Groothuysen. Together, they bring the images and texts of the performance to life.
