The unusual love story of a skinhead (Daniel Day-Lewis’ breakthrough role) and a young Pakistani man who opens a luxury laundrette in London. A cruelly honest comedy about a culture clash during Thatcherism.

When Omar, a young Pakistani man from south London is gifted a laundrette by his uncle, he engages his childhood friend to help him get the place back on track. The friend is a former National Front skinhead. He volunteers to help him make his dream a reality and something beautiful develops between the two.
