On this cozy afternoon, we will gather around the table to share memories from the history of Pink The Hague. In a screen presentation, we will see photos of various meeting places in The Hague and listen to each other's beautiful, fun, and moving stories.
Were you a visitor of the Boko? Did you often go to the Venise or the Stairs? Or were the Scheveningen woods or the sauna more your thing? And what are the stories of women and trans people? Where did you meet each other in The Hague?
Graphic designer Dennis Koot is currently researching meeting places from the period 1969-2007. During this time, LGBTQ+ visibility in the public space increased significantly (1969, after the Stonewall riots) and then slowly disappeared again (2007, introduction of the smartphone).
The ultimate goal is to release a publication about the places that the Netherlands knew, and The Hague cannot be missing from it! In a talk show-like setting, Koot would like to hear the stories from you as a visitor. The afternoon conversation will be recorded (audio only), and from this, he will distill the (hopefully) beautiful stories into text.
The afternoon takes place during Zilveruitjes. The Zilveruitjes café will be open as usual in the front of the COC building, while the presentation and group conversation will be held in the back. You are welcome from 4:00 PM, and the presentation starts promptly at 4:30 PM.
This activity is organized as part of Queer History Month, an initiative of IHLIA LGBTI Heritage, the LGBTQIA+ archive and center for queer history in the Netherlands.
