A Double Bill Evening
This film screening is part of Pride The Hague, a week in which communities from The Hague come together to create space for LGBTQIA+ stories, visibility, and connection. With a program full of culture, encounters, and conversation, Pride is all about being yourself and getting to understand one another better.
Theater en Filmhuis Dakota contributes to this with a special Pride evening presented as a double bill. Two standalone programs in which being queer and Muslim takes center stage.
Hasan Gök is a spoken word artist, poet, and presenter who shares personal and often unheard stories from his multifaceted identity. These are stories about a diversity of worlds coming together in his own life: the son of a Turkish father and a Kurdish mother, raised in Dutch society, queer and Muslim, and someone who loves both the spotlights of the stage and the silence of the night.
During this Pride program, Hasan will perform a piece he wrote during Ramadan. In it, he reflects on the speed of everyday reality and his wish to slow down. His performance is supported by visuals and sound.
The Blue Caftan follows Halim, who runs a traditional caftan shop in the medina of Salé, Morocco, together with his wife Mina. Throughout their marriage, they have lived with a secret: Halim's homosexuality, which he has learned to suppress. But Mina's illness and the arrival of an apprentice in the shop disrupt this fragile balance. United in their love, they help each other face their fears.
This program was created in collaboration with Movies that Matter and with support from Fonds 1818.
