Film Night: Queer History, Identity, and Community

It's October, which means the Utrecht Queer Culture Festival is appearing all over the city! As part of the festival, community cinema de Sien and Leather Social Utrecht present a film night focusing on queer history, identity, and community.

The evening will feature a screening of the documentary Rebel Dykes, preceded by the short archival documentary Lasting Marks.

After the screening, there will be a panel discussion to delve into the themes from the films. Afterwards, you are welcome to join us for a drink in our café, hosted by Leather Social Utrecht.

Rebel Dykes – Harri Shanahan & Siân A. Williams (2021)

The activism of punks and lesbians against the repressive government of Margaret Thatcher formed an explosive cocktail in 1980s London. This raw documentary speaks with the rebellious women of that time, 40 years later, interspersed with historical archive footage and music.

Lasting Marks – Charlie Shackleton (2018)

A look at Operation Spanner during the final days of Margaret Thatcher's reign: a case in which the police arrested 16 men who were convicted for filming consensual sadomasochistic acts. Their story has been told by everyone except themselves.
