A low barrer-to-entry space to learn with and from the trans community.

It is deeply unjust that learning about important societal topics is systematically gatekept behind academic elitism and high tuition costs. On top of this, no academic institution is free from racism, misogyny, queerphobia, ableism, and so on. In response, TUB is organising sessions where we educate ourselves and each other in a space that is safe(r) for our community. These events aim to have a low barrier to entry, have no prior knowledge or reading requirements, and do not give homework. There is also no grading or assessment: the aim is to lift each other up, not to compete over intellectual performance.

Rather than following a typical lecture format, this space welcomes conversations guided by the host(s). Questions (for clarification or respectful criticism), different perspectives and personal lived experiences are all encouraged. It is important that we all remain aware of our own societal positioning and make space for experiences from various intersections of marginalisation, both within our community and outside of it. Additionally, our host(s) will try their best to maintain awareness of the power dynamics that are inevitably introduced in such conversations, and make sure that structurally silenced voices, especially non-white ones, have priority.

Please be aware that due to their nature, these events will be discussing very heavy topics that may be emotionally demanding. It will often be necessary to dive very deeply into upsetting topics to gain proper understanding. This is not meant to discourage anyone from participating, but to allow participants to give informed consent. Before each session, we will establish protocols for safety and wellbeing. You are also welcome to leave (and eventually return to) the session at any point. We will also make space for debriefing at the end of each session. Additionally, a list of topics and content warnings will be provided before each session, as seen below. If you have any questions or concerns, you are encouraged to contact the host(s) of this event.

Though there is no limit in terms of attendance, signing up for this event is required, and can be done here.

The topic of this edition is plurality/systemhood, also known as DID or OSDD. Plurality is a spectrum wherein multiple identities exist within the same body/mind. Despite being more common than you might think, especially in a community of vulnerable people, plurality suffers from extreme stigma. For this reason, we want to use this edition of RoundTUBle to offer information and insights. We will discuss the basics, the many ways in which it can present itself, and we will be sharing lived experiences from the plural community.

Three important notes:

  • The explicit audience for this event is non-systems. This means that, unfortunately due to limited space, we have to discourage other systems from attending this edition of RoundTUBle. Rest assured that perspectives and lived experiences have been collected from the community and that we are confident we can communicate them effectively.
  • This event will not be the time to delve into whether you might be plural. However, there will of course be plenty of space for questions!
  • For those in the know, it's good to make clear that the perspectives being shared will not include those of the so-called sys-medicalists and will be explicitly in support of the diverse spectrum of plurality that ranges beyond it being a disorder.

About the venue
