A mesmerizing dance performance about the allure of the collective.
In Folk, a vibrant club night slowly transforms into an intoxicating ritual. The dance floor becomes an altar, and the night a series of ceremonies where collectivity takes over. As the atmosphere shifts, the group forms a collective identity that either absorbs or rejects individuals.
Eight international dancers bring the masterful choreography of Zwaan-winner Dunja Jocić to life. Her dance style is rooted in classical ballet and combined with the raw energy of Balkan music and dance. Inspired by the folk traditions of former Yugoslavia and the turbulent '90s, Dunja Jocić explores the seduction and power of the collective in this performance.
There is no spoken language in this show.
Dunja Jocić creates cinematic dance performances that expose the depths of the human psyche. Her work, steeped in her background in ballet and as a top athlete in former Yugoslavia, was awarded the VSCD Dance Prize 'De Zwaan'. As a sought-after choreographer for major ballet companies in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, she is solidifying her international reputation.
