Queer Keti Koti is a poignant evening with music, theatrical readings, and historical insights into queer lives during slavery in Suriname and the Antilles. Forbidden and hidden stories are given a voice on this evening.
A unique evening at Villa Concordia where we enrich our shared history of slavery from an underexposed perspective.
The evening opens with a special interview with Frank Wijdenbosch, who, in conversation with Raymi, talks about Surinamese men who cross-dressed from an early stage. Actress Jorabelle Lukoki, a final-year student at ArtEZ Arnhem, will then perform a scene written by Sharona Diopp. Musician Chery Bernadina will provide two musical performances, accompanied by a background singer. Her music also inspires one of the dance performances by dancer Mildred Bito, who will present two choreographies with a second dancer. Actor Marley Verbeem, also a final-year student at ArtEZ Arnhem, will contribute with two powerful texts: Martin Luther Queer and a specially written thank-you letter to our queer ancestors.
