Calling all performers! This could be your moment to shine on the Amsterdam stage. The Orange Theatre Company (OTC), the city's leading English-language theatre group, has announced a final call for auditions for its April 2026 production of 'The Last Five Years'.

If you've got the vocal chops and acting prowess, this is an incredible opportunity to take on a role in one of modern musical theatre's most iconic and emotionally resonant shows. OTC is looking for two exceptional talents to portray the lead characters, Cathy and Jamie.

About the Musical: A Modern Classic

For those unfamiliar, Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years is a cult classic for a reason. It chronicles the five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The musical’s genius lies in its unique structure: Jamie’s story is told chronologically, from their first meeting to their painful breakup, while Cathy’s story is told in reverse, starting from the end of their marriage and moving backward to their first date. Their timelines intersect only once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

Its raw and honest exploration of love, ambition, heartbreak, and memory resonates universally.

Who Are They Looking For?

The Orange Theatre Company is seeking two dynamic performers to bring this complex story to life. These are demanding roles that require significant vocal range and deep emotional vulnerability.

  • CATHY: A struggling actress, full of hope, insecurity, and humour. Her journey is one of heartbreak leading back to intoxicating love.
  • JAMIE: A talented, charming, and ambitious writer whose rapid success complicates his relationship. His story is one of bright-eyed love dimming into regret.
