Due to high public interest, a second performance of the theatre production “Ik ben wie ik ben” will be held in Nijmegen, offering another opportunity to hear the stories and songs of local LGBTQ+ seniors.
The show, which first ran on February 1, is scheduled for an encore performance on Saturday, April 11, at the Thiemeloods in Nijmegen. “Ik ben wie ik ben” (“I am who I am”) is a theatre project designed to provide a platform for the voices and experiences of older members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The performance features a series of short, personal stories told by the seniors themselves. These narratives touch upon their history, their current lives, and their perspectives on the future, offering the audience a direct connection to the lived history of the LGBTQ+ community in the region. The stories are interwoven with musical performances, creating a dynamic and engaging production.
According to the organisers, the project’s goal is to foster greater awareness and understanding of the lives of LGBTQ+ elders. By giving them a stage, the production aims to make their diverse experiences more visible to the wider community. The project has received support from the municipality of Nijmegen.
Following the performance, attendees will have the opportunity to stay for drinks and conversation, providing a space for reflection and community connection.
