IQMF Returns with Curated Three-Day Program
Amsterdam's LAB111 is set to host a special 'Weekender' edition of the International Queer & Migrant Film Festival (IQMF) from May 1st to May 3rd, 2026. The three-day event will present a concentrated program of films focused on the intersection of LGBTQ+ and migrant identities, aiming to provide alternative narratives and foster dialogue within the community.
This edition serves as a prelude to the main annual festival, scheduled for December. The program is built on collaborations with several cultural organizations, including The Yarn Sisters, Las Americas Festival, and Schmutz Cinema, each contributing their unique curatorial perspective to the lineup.
Diverse Programming and Special Focus
The schedule features a wide range of international cinema. A significant portion of the programming on Saturday, May 2nd, is dedicated to a 'Chinese Queer Feminist Day', curated in partnership with The Yarn Sisters. This block includes multiple short film programs and feature documentaries like Love Bound and China Town Cha Cha.
Other highlights include a collaboration with Schmutz Cinema on screenings such as the Brazilian film Parque de Diversões and a shorts program titled Viva la Prostitucion!. The festival's own programmers have selected films like Shatara Michelle Ford's Dreams In Nightmares and the ballroom culture documentary 10s Across Borders.
Art Exhibition and Future Plans
In addition to film screenings, the Weekender will feature the final exhibition of Rainbow Rhythms, a two-year art project developed with European partner organizations, adding another dimension to the cultural event.
Organizers have stated the May event is designed to warm up audiences for the 11th edition of the main annual festival, which is scheduled to take place from December 3rd to 6th, 2026, at the same venue.
