The Hague to Launch 2026 Dutch Pride Season with Inaugural Week-Long Festival
THE HAGUE – The Netherlands' Pride season will officially commence in The Hague on May 8, 2026, with an expanded, week-long edition of Pride The Hague. For the first time, the city's celebration will span nine days, running until May 16, offering a broader programme of events focused on inclusion, community connection, and visibility.
The event, organised by COC Haaglanden in collaboration with various local queer organisations and with support from the municipality, aims to provide more space for both celebration and substantive dialogue. The expansion to a full week is intended to create more opportunities for community members and allies to meet and participate in a wider range of activities throughout the city.
A Week of Celebration and Connection
The Pride Week will begin with a festive opening ceremony at the Amare cultural centre. The opening will also feature a queer market, providing a platform for local LGBTQ+ organisations, artists, and entrepreneurs to present their work and initiatives to the public.
The week's agenda is designed to offer a mix of festive and reflective events, moving beyond a single day of celebration to embed Pride within the city's cultural fabric for a longer period.
Pride Walk Remains a Key Highlight
The week will culminate in the traditional Pride Walk on Saturday, May 16. Thousands are expected to participate in the colourful procession through the city centre, which serves as both a celebration of identity and a demonstration for equal rights and social acceptance. The route will pass key locations including the Grote Markt and city hall before concluding with a large-scale Pride Party at the Koekamp.
New Initiatives to Foster Community
This year's expanded format introduces several new platforms designed to increase visibility and collaboration within the queer community. These include:
- Sharing Stories: A new online platform dedicated to sharing the personal stories and experiences of LGBTQ+ residents of The Hague, aiming to showcase the diversity within the community.
- Pride Connect: An online environment where organisations and participants can network, find each other, and collaborate on initiatives during and after Pride week.
- Pride Map: A digital map available on the official website, highlighting queer-friendly locations, businesses, and activities across the city.
'More Important Than Ever'
Officials have stressed the continuing relevance of Pride. Alderperson Mariëlle Vavier noted, "With Pride, we show that you can be yourself in The Hague. But that is not yet a given for everyone."
This sentiment was echoed by Paulien van der Hoeven, chairperson of COC Haaglanden, who stated that Pride is more than just a party. "It is a moment to stand up together for equal rights and acceptance," she said.
The full programme and further details can be found on the official Pride The Hague website as the event approaches.
